Etnopatsy is a duo made from two Estonian singers Aile Alveus-Krautmann and Elis Loik. As they were announced as competitors for the upcoming Eesti Laul 2018 with their song Külm, we’ve decided to do an interview with them. Aile responded to our questions in duos name.

When was Etnopatsy formed?

Etnopatsy singers Elis and Aile officially met last year at Eesti Laul semifinals. Elis was backsinger for Kerli (Spirit Animal), while I was singing with Antsud. You could say, that is when Etnopatsy came together, because we agreed to participate next year together. We started working with „Külm“ in August.

Why did You decide to perform together on Eesti Laul 2018?

Elis has a magical voice and I specially composed the song for her. Also, we both have dreadlocks and so we look different, stand out maybe? PATSID means locks in estonian. Eesti Laul is the biggest event here for musicians, so participating was on our minds even before „Külm“ was born.

Do you think Your last years experience on Eesti Laul  will help you this year in any way?

I think we both have more confidence thanks to that and also we know how the show works and what to expect. It is allways better if you have experience.

Can you tell us what Külm is about?

Külm (meaning cold in estonian) tells the story about feelings and emotions we go through, when we are mad at somebody we love. The feeling of being cold and twisted, and sad inside. And chorus „hella-hee“ means the soft loving feel that battles with the cold. Because we really never want to be mad or sad.

Your song is heavily influenced by Estonian folk music, combined with some eletronic beats and instruments. Do you think this is the way Eurovision should musically go in the following years?

I think that every country has a very different folkmusic background and that is what makes us unique. Eurovision is a fun and big event, I just think that more different music styles makes it better.

What kind of staging should we expect from you?

That is going to be a secret 🙂

At the end of this interview, do you have any message for the readers of Eurosong.hr?

Dream big! Work hard! Everything is possible!

The Editorial Board of Eurosong.hr would like to thank Etnopatsy for their time, and wishes them all the best on Eesti Laul 2018!
